IDIOTS PLAYGROUND


Since this blog started it has brought forth a ton of great information and pictures from some worthy contributors. Not only that but it has also brought collectors together to a place where they can all share their hobby, it's been a real benefit to the hobby for the most part.

However many of us find it unfortunate that there are unappreciative wannabe idiots who continue to use this blog as a playground to make stupid immature or degrading comments due to their own inadequacies. Boner man, those who slam others, the ones who hind behind "anonymous" and the jealous ones who think they know where all good stuff comes from need to get a life. Do these guys ever post any of their digs or have anything constructive to share, nope because their to busy with their jealous stupid comments.

There are others that have constructive things to add here but will no longer post due to all the negative idiotic behavior. I work hard at it and like sharing the excitement of my finds with appreciative fellow collectors on this blog but that's all going to end if the bs continues.

  5. Idiot's playground is right! I changed the setting on the comments to hopefully eliminate anonymous blather. Sign up as a follower if you want to comment. If the stupidity continues we will eliminate the comments completely. Maybe the blog experiment needs to go away. Tightly controlled websites maybe the only way to distribute this information.

  7. Is it not possible to simply eliminate comments unless you identify yourself? The blog itself has been a HUGE way of collectors to connect, and share the excitement of this hobby. Plus I for one sure have learned alot.

  8. All comments should now have the followers name albeit "screenname" and icon. I have all followers email addresses. If an anonymous comment slips through ??somehow.. it will be deleted immediately... regardless of content.

    Anyone else want to be an administrator for this site? I'm starting to get jumpy..

  9. I couldn't agree more with Lou and with those that support his feelings. I've seen this hobby go through a lot of changes in the 44 years I've been at it. Unfortunately not much of the recent "evolution" has been for the betterment of the hobby. Sadly, the internet seems to have accelerated the tailspin of this deterioration at warp speed. Too bad too, because the wealth of knowledge now available should be used to further the hobby, not to rip it apart from it's very foundation. As I mentioned to Rick a little while ago, It's pretty tough to stuff Pandora back in the box once she's out and doing her thing. With any luck, it can be done and the Glop Top site can get back to it roots.

    That being said, a couple of timeless quotes sum up my feelings about the ongoing negativity being spewed forth by a select few;
    1) If you have nothing good to say....say nothing
    2) "Better to keep your mouth closed and be thought a fool than to open it and remove all doubt"

  10. Soleagent, You are doing a fine job Mi Amigo, No Worries, its Good to Purge the Herd on occasion, it cleans out the Bad Blood. I really enjoy reading the Shared Stories of the Digs and Seeing the Pictures of the Dug Stuff. As you know, down here on the border in Dago, we be starving for some early glass. This is the next best thing. I have learned a lot from reading this blog. The old books are ok, but the info being shared Today is a Good Thing. Kentucky Gem does a mighty fine job on the Western Whiskey Tool Top Site Too. Just a ton of Good Useful Info, Pictures and some Great writing, with Character. I Appreciate the Sites, Keep it Real.   13. Time for the era of anonymity to come to a swift close. There are enough of us who take the time, effort, and risk to post pictures of our digs and personal collections for all to see. The positives of this blog far outweigh the negatives. I am thankful to Roger for kicking this off, grateful to the more experiened diggers and collectors for schooling me on many of the bottles I have or desire to own one day, and appreciate the awesome recent posts of new digs and recent acquisitions.

    I have a few digs to post when I get around to it. I look forward to more insightful discussions, creative posts, and top notch bottle pictures.

    This blog will resemble whatever we choose to make it. We all have a voice to make this and the FOHBC a positive force in the hobby, or a negative extension of a few bad seeds. I think the majority of us are all on the same page, and I hope more will add their names and contributions to this forum.

    What I appreciate most about this hobby is not the bottles on my shelf or in a cardboard box, but the good friendships I've developed by going to shows, digging with friends, being an active bottle club member, and talking shop on the blog....

    The things we have, we will one day lose....but what we give, we will always have. I think a guy like Peck Markota lived this out very well.

  14. karl gressel here,the fun of the digging is what keeps me going,love the bottles too,I have not been able to keep most of them,the bottles go,but the memories can't be taken away.I am trying hard to find the next whiskey ,and even 1900 ones are hard to find these days in the concrete jungle.on this site I have seen some very good bottles and things about the hobby that I do not see living far away from the good shows ,that had the good glass,like cali has had over the years. will never forget doc ritz saying on a trip to his place and he said, he would sell it all to me ,if i had the money then. the green gold dust was my choice but he wanted 3000.00 then ,wish I got it. the n van bergen golddust I did get was really the crudest i had seen at the time, and traded a one name and two name bear,beargrass fifth and a plain dark golddust for it,gone but not forgotten,probably one of the ones in the picture on this site showing 6-8 golddusts in a row.who ever remembers, in 1995 i drove down to a sf show and had car trouble, and arrived at the end of the show and everyone was tearing down ,mike mackintosh found buyers for mt one name bear,a mide crown emartin super crude fifth and a few others ,and a green old sacham bitters to mike hennes,he already had two the same color,but like us old timers one is never enough.anyway, lou ,don't let a few spoil it for ya,lets make it so people who use the site ,use your name .karl.

  15. Hello All, I just joined this site when the Western Btters site crashed. I live in the east but reading and seeing what you guys collect and find is really impressive. I am a member of FOHBC. I don't know what drives negativity but if you can't put your name to your opinion then they should be deleted . Just my two cents and keep the pictures and the great digging stories coming.

And I guess that we will not have to see anymore idiots posting there anonymous bs anymore. great! we can get on with the great bottle pics and info. thanks for changing the posting rules.....Andy

  17. Your right, this blog is run very well and RT has done an excellent innovative job in starting and maintaining it. Just to bad a few bad apples have to spoil it for everyone. Keep posting, this is a major asset to the collecting community and lets see where it goes as it breathes a life of its own.
